Haroons is the name the Magnum family gives to its charitable work: help with education and medical treatment, support for community and religious institutions in Panjim and Candolim, and the welfare of the people who work in the group's businesses. It is a family initiative, not a registered charity, and it does not raise funds. This page exists so that the work is on record.

What the work is
Four things, done steadily rather than loudly.
Medical treatment
Treatment and hospital costs for families who would otherwise go without, and support for medical care in the communities the group's people come from.
Community and religious institutions
Support for community and religious institutions and their occasions in Panjim and Candolim, and for local welfare where the family has lived and worked for fifty years.
The people who work with us
Staff of the four businesses, the workers on Magnum sites, and their families: emergencies, education, and housing. The group's businesses are the first place the help goes.
How a request reaches us
Through the head office at Magnum Chambers, in person or in writing, with “Haroons” in the subject line. Requests are considered by the family. Not every request can be met, and every one is answered.
What we do not do
We do not raise funds, sell tickets, or run appeals, and we do not lend Haroons' name to fundraising by others. If that changes, the registration and the accounts will be on this page first.

Disha Charitable Trust, Panaji
Founder trustee · 1994
Disha Charitable Trust was formed in Panaji in 1994 by parents of children with intellectual disabilities. It runs the Disha School for Special Children behind the Directorate of Education at Altinho, among the oldest special schools in Goa. Rehana Haroon is one of its founder trustees and its treasurer, and a trustee of the Disha Society for Special Children. The school marked its silver jubilee in 2019.

Disha Vocational Training Centre, Panaji
Founder and administrator
Disha's vocational section trains its older students — 34 of them in 2024–25 — to make handcrafted goods and sell them, at college stalls through the year and at the annual exhibition-cum-sale at Panjim Gymkhana each October; the proceeds go back to the students. Rehana Haroon set the section up, teaches in it, and administers it. In April 2025 it moved into its own premises at Portais, Panaji, as the Disha Vocational Training Centre.

Shiksha Niketan, Porvorim
Founder trustee, erstwhile · 1991
Shiksha Niketan opened in Porvorim in 1991, a primary school built on inclusive, activity-based learning under its founder-principal, the educationist Nisha da Cunha. Rehana Haroon was among those who started it and served as a founder trustee. The school, now in its own buildings at Torda, marked 25 years in 2016; the family is no longer on its board.

Fatma Aasra, Benaulim
Benefactor · since 2012
Fatma Aasra is a home for orphaned and destitute children at Benaulim, near Margao, run by the Mufeedul Muslameen Youth Organisation of Goa since 2012. It began in a heritage house at Benaulim that the family gave for the purpose, and the family has remained among its benefactors as the home has grown into a new three-storey building on the same ground.

Goa Artists' Collective at Poonam Lodge

Poonam Lodge in Fontainhas was built in 1917 and over a century was a travellers' lodge, a dormitory, a wholesale bag store, and for a time a library, before it stood empty. In March 2018 the family opened it to the newly formed Goa Artists' Collective for the collective's first show, “Poonam Lodge: when does a house cease to be a house?” — ten artists, Bhisaji Gadekar, Diptej Vernekar, Kalidas Mhamal, Kedar Dhondu, Pradeep Naik, Ramdas Gadekar, Shilpa Mayenkar, Siddharth Gosavi, Sidhesh Chari, and Soumitrimayee Paital, working in the rooms of the house: a preview on 11 March, then open from 12 to 25 March. The family, credited as Haroon's among the show's supporters, remains a patron of the collective.

Rotary International
Major Donors · two Panaji clubs
Haroon Ebrahim is a member of the Rotary Club of Panaji Mid-Town, in Rotary International District 3170, and was its President in 2019–20, the year the club designed, made, and distributed protective face shields during the Covid-19 lockdown. Ebrahim Haroon has been a member of the Rotary Club of Miramar since its charter year, 2016, and has served on its board. The family are Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation, the recognition Rotary gives for cumulative personal giving of US$10,000 or more.

Ebrahim Haroon is a member of Lodge Haig Brown No. 3829, a Masonic lodge under the United Grand Lodge of England through the District Grand Lodge of Bombay. The lodge was consecrated in Bombay on 31 August 1918 and named after William Alban Haig-Brown, District Grand Master of Bombay from 1912 to 1923; it later moved to Goa and meets in Panaji.
Roles and memberships are as at September 2026. Haroons itself is a family initiative of the Magnum family, Panaji, and is not a separate legal entity, trust, or society. It does not solicit or accept donations.
